Top Sites
A site which contains links to other member sites, all of which are usually on a common theme (example: "Top 50 Jokes Sites").
Each member of the top site is required to link back to the top site, and every time a visitor clicks on the member site's link back, receives 1 "vote".
The more votes a member site receives (i.e. visitors it sends to the top site), the higher up the top site listing, it is shown. Being listed higher up in the top site is beneficial to the member site, as it will usually be more prominently listed at the the top site, and thus be more likely to get additional visitors back from the top site.
At most top sites, the overall votes for a site are cumulative, although at some, they may be periodically reset.
