Viral Marketing Viral Marketing is a marketing strategy that encourages others to pass on your marketing message for you. The theory is that this can lead to an explosion of interest in your product or service, and exponential growth rates. (1 person tells 2 others, 2 people tell 4, 4 tell 8, etc.) Probably the most often repeated viral marketing success story is Hotmail who grow from nothing to over 40 million subscribers in just three years. One of the main ways that Hotmail achieved this incredible success, was everytime a customer used their service to send an e-mail message, a small marketing message was added at the bottom of the message. (actually I know the message is/was there, but I have no idea if it really is the main reason for their success). Other examples of viral marketing include passing out free E-Books, using tell-a-friend forms on web sites, giving out free web-based services for others to use, and more. In the case of E-Books a good method of encouraging viral growth is to include a message in your E-Book saying it may be freely distributed. Additionally, if you use Activ E-Book Compiler, then you can use the Rebrander to allow your readers to pass along customized copies of your E-Book - so you might for example allow them to pass on copies of your E-Book with their name, URL or affiliate Id incorporated - and obviously people will be more likely to pass on the E-Book, if they see a benefit to themselves from doing so.
